For more information about Canal Day, see below…

Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of Canal Day! The Town of DeWitt Annual Canal Day is our community’s largest single event! The event includes:

  • Tables for community organizations
  • Carnival games and inflatables, etc. for children and adults
  • Food Trucks
  • An evening concert by the Maria DeSantis Orchestra
  • Fireworks after dark

The date is Saturday, August 6th, with a rain date of Sunday, August 7th. The event runs from 4pm to 10pm, with Craft vendor set up approximately 1-3pm; vendors generally can leave at 8:00 or 9:00pm or stay through until 10:00pm.  We do not charge admission, but instead charge vendors and food trucks for space; we also sell tickets for games and other activities.  Canal Day is held at our Ryder Park facility, outside DeWitt Town Hall, which gives us plenty of space to accommodate all of the activities, but also keeps the event “intimate” enough to retain its community character.

This year we are planning to host a Craft Fair…which is where you come in! We would love to have you participate; we ask for a “Cancellation” deposit of $50 and also a “Vendor fee” of $25. The “Cancellation” deposit will be returned to you unless you cancel; this helps us make sure we have a good turnout of vendors; the “Vendor fee” is to help the Town cover its costs. (You must bring your own set-up table, canopy, etc. for a 10’ space, or let us know you want more than one space.)

In terms of marketing:

  • The Town will be marketing the event heavily on our new Town website, see it at:
  • We will generate emails, social media, and make several contacts with our list of 27 media contacts/outlets via media alerts and press releases.
  • We will also make sure our Summer Day Camp campers (150 families) and staff receive emails and fliers promoting Canal Day.

Our Town of DeWitt marketing message is “We’re building community,” we mean that message sincerely. Now more than ever - given all we have experienced as a result of the pandemic - people are looking for genuine community…a sense of belonging that has meaning and purpose.

Canal Day is just one of the ways we can tangibly support folks to build community with one another! We hope you will consider becoming a part of Canal Day 2022 as a Craft Fair vendor and partnering with us here at the Town of DeWitt Recreation Department!
