CONGRATS! North Dakota State College of Science

2023 NJCAA Women’s Div. III Nat’l Softball Champions!

A huge last minute come from behind win for the North Dakota Wildcats, defeating the
Corning Barons by a single run in a Game 2 elimination at the bottom of the 7th ; the
Wildcats came from four runs behind in the final minutes to win the 2023 Women’s
Softball World Series Tournament 13-12!

After a powerful performance of the national anthem by Town of DeWitt Recreation’s
own Brie Hall, the Wildcats made a strong start in the 12:00 noon Game #1, scoring a
homerun in the first couple of minutes! They continued to power through, beating
Corning 11-4. Corning’s loss meant a 2nd elimination game was needed, as Corning
posted the most runs overall in the tournament.

Thanks to the as always astute coaching of Corning’s Stacy Johnson, the Barons led
through most of Game #2; right up until the bottom of the 7th when in the final minutes,
the Wildcats scored run after run.

A big thank you to Town of DeWitt staff, NJCAA Officials, Lynne Nemeth and her team
of Umpires, and Donnie Dutcher - Herkimer Dean of Students and Athletic Director –
and his tournament team for a positive and productive partnership resulting in a week to
remember for some 200 young women athletes.

Our biggest thank you to those 200 athletes (and their coaches). Thank you for
supporting us to “build community!” It was an honor to serve and support such a
thoughtful, joyful, appreciative group of young women; stay strong, smart, and full of joy
and empathy…you will change the world!
