Town of DeWitt government is composed of a seven member Town Board, with the Supervisor serving as the chief financial and executive officer.
DeWitt Town Hall serves as a polling place and in 2020 served as an early voting polling place; there are 12 polling places throughout the town. In 2020, some 14,299 town residents voted in the general election.
DeWitt’s annual budget is just over $18 million dollars, with an additional $24 million dollars in spending and contracts administered through special districts. Despite rising health care, pension, and labor costs - and the loss of sales tax revenue - the average annual tax increase for the past 12 years has been less than one and a half percent.
The Town employs more than 135 permanent employees across 12 departments, including robust water, highway, and police departments. Town staff is represented by four separate union bargaining units; three units CSEA and one unit PBA.
