Payment can be made either in person or mail. Generally, Town Hall is open for the payment of taxes on the morning of the last Saturday in each collection period.
You can mail your tax payment to: Dewitt Tax Department, 5400 Butternut Drive, East Syracuse, NY 13057. Payments are considered “paid” as of the date of the U.S. Postal Service postmark. (Check your bill for alternatives to the Postal Service.)
Online payments can be made at www.ongov.net/rpts for an additional fee.
If you are mailing your payment on or near the last day, please note that the commonly used in-office franking machines such as Pitney-Bowes and Hassler do not constitute proof of mailing on the date stamped. We strongly recommend that you take your payment into a U.S. Post Office to insure that it is hand-cancelled with the date. The Taft Road Post Office generally has the latest postal box pickup.
I plan to order a check from my bank. What should I be aware of?

This presents a problem at the end of the penalty-free period as banks use in-office franking machines that do not meet the requirements for proving the date of mailing. Please plan far enough ahead to avoid this problem.

Any last words of advice?
Glad you asked. If you are mailing us your payment as a check, please include a telephone number where you can be reached. Even small discrepancies can prevent us from cashing a check and may result in an otherwise ‘on time’ payment having late fees assessed.
