Thanks to a grant from New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) the Town has purchased and installed three (3) double port, Level 2 ChargePoint electric vehicle charging stations at DeWitt Town Hall. Combined these three stations are capable of charging six vehicles at a time. They are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for public use. DeWitt Town Hall is located about about 200 yards from the entrance of the Old Erie Canal Historic State Park at Butternut Drive.

Under this same grant, the Town of DeWitt is working towards purchasing two Chevy Bolts for use by the Planning and Zoning Department. Once the cars arrive, one charging station will be devoted to the Town’s Chevy Bolts and the other two stations will be dedicated to public use. The Chevy Bolt is an affordable all-electric car with an estimated range of 238 miles on a single charge. The use of electric vehicles and the installation of charging stations help the Town achieve its greenhouse gas emission reduction goals as outlined in the Sustainability Plan adopted in 2014.
