Several beautiful parks, a robust trail system, greenspaces, and access to the Erie Canalway and the Empire State Trail are all available within the Town of DeWitt. We are also home to Clark’s Reservation in the southern corner of the town, and Willis Carrier Park in the northern corridor of DeWitt.

Our Carrier Park recreation facility is a $12.5 million state-of-the-art, all-inclusive, multi-sport facility for children and adults, including those with special needs. When completed, Carrier Park will be one of the first fully integrated, fully handicap accessible outdoor complexes in the Central New York region. Phase 2 of construction was completed in the Fall of 2020 and includes turf infields, an all-inclusive cutting edge playground – the only one of its kind in CNY – and three specially designed basketball courts, funded in part by the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation, with adjustable backboards and rims so that players of all ages and abilities, including those with special needs, can play. Carrier Park is also the proud home of the Syracuse Challenger Baseball Program, the local division of Little League for children and young adults with physical and developmental disabilities; the special needs children of Syracuse Challenger Baseball represent one of the single largest districts of the Challenger Baseball program in the United States.

If parks, trails, and greenspaces are our “natural capital,” DeWitt enjoys a wealth of beautiful, natural spaces and progressive parks and playgrounds; numerous studies have shown that parks and greenspaces improve the standard of living and quality of life for surrounding neighborhoods, provide increased recreational opportunities and public health improvements, increase property values, and help maintain a strong tax base.
