The Town of DeWitt is a highly desirable place to live, learn, worship, work, shop, play…and do business. DeWitt is the proud home of a wide and diverse spectrum of businesses from mom and pop retail stores and restaurants, to national and international corporations.

We recognize robust, profitable businesses support the strength of our tax base…and that supports the quality of our services, the value of our homes, and the desire of both families and businesses to locate in DeWitt.

We’re building community in the Town of DeWitt; as such we are very supportive of industrial, high-tech, retail and freight distribution uses. Approximately 46% of all of the industrial land use by acreage in Onondaga County is located in DeWitt, with 52% of the town itself zoned industrial or high-tech. DeWitt has 12 Zoning Districts to accommodate just about any type of use; residential, business, hi-tech, office and professional; we also allow “Mixed-use” and “Transportation and Distribution” overlay Districts.

DeWitt offers unparalleled access to truck, rail, and air services including Hancock International Airport and both Class I and Class II railway systems. DeWitt also offers easy access to major arterial highways bisecting the town, NYS Route 81 running North and South from the Canadian border to Scranton, PA and the NYS Thruway running East and West from Boston to Cleveland; Route 690 and I-481 are also accessed with the town.

The Town of DeWitt sits in the heart of New York State between the Finger Lakes, the Adirondacks, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. Bordered by the City of Syracuse in the west and the Town of Manlius in the east, DeWitt welcomes visitors with 28 hotels and a myriad of parks, trails, and greenspaces. Though DeWitt’s population is 26,000, more than 45,000 non-residents come to DeWitt each day to work and more than 100,000 vehicles pass through the town on their way to other destinations. As such, DeWitt serves as an eastern suburban hub outside the City of Syracuse and appeals to companies looking for a vital holistic, progressive community to locate – or expand – their business.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has strongly supported the development of an Inland Port at DeWitt’s village of East Syracuse rail yards; the project is now in the planning stages. The Inland Port project has the potential to become a positive, powerful long-term economic engine for the entire CNY region.

The synergistic partnership between town government, the business community, and our residents means doing business in DeWitt…is good for business.

The Town of DeWitt…we’re building community.
