Jamesville Sewer Project Update General News 7/15/2010
7/15/10 We're in the homestretch of the Jamesville Sewer project. Restoration continues with sidewalks being completed this week on South Street. Route 173 and Jutland Drive are about done. North Street needs more work. Final paving (roads and driveway top coat) will start next week.
The pumping station on Solvay Road was energized this week and will go through testing and start up starting next week. We're hoping to have the system ready for use by August 6. Letters will be sent to all users when the sewers are operable.
The Town Tree Committee should have their recommendations for tree replacement shortly and this information will be shared with the effected residents.
6/24/10 Restoration work continues at a brisk pace. The sidewalks on the south side of East Seneca Tnpk. west of the old Fire Station have been completed along with most of the topsoil and seeding. The sidewalks between the Fire Station and the corner and along South Street will be done shortly. Topsoil and seeding will also continue and when that's completed, the asphalt top on the driveways and roads will be done.
The control panel for the pumping station is due tomorrow and the station should be finished by July 9. Testing and start up will follow.
The new water main on South Street should be completed by the middle of next week.
We're still on schedule for putting the system on line by the end of July.
The Town's Tree Committee is working on a tree replacement plan and hopes to have it completed by the end of July. The plan will be shared with effected residents when completed.
6/9/10 The final sewer pipe work was completed last week with the crossings of Butternut and Rush Creeks. Work continues on the pumping station. The pumps were delivered this week and the control panel is expected in 2 weeks. The target date for the completion of the pumping station is the end of June.
Restoration work is going well. Grass is growing in areas that were hydro-seeded last week. Sidewalks along the south side of Rt 173 will be started next week. All the sidewalks will be concrete.
The new water main on the east side of South Street will be started next week. The temporary main is being installed now. The new main should be completed in about 2 weeks.
The tree replacement plan is being prepared. More on this next month.
The target date for system start up is late July.
5/26/10
All pipeline work with the exception of the creek crossings was completed last week. Cleanup/restoration has commenced as is proceeding at a good pace. Work is continuing on the pumping station. We're hoping to do the creek crossings next week, followed by the water main replacement on South Street. There are still a number of trees to remove. I don't have a schedule yet for that. Enjoy the Parade Saturday.
5/18/10 Mainline sewer installation concluded last week, one week ahead of schedule. All laterals should be completed by the end of work on 5/18. Restoration has started and will proceed until completed. The only other work left to complete on the project are the creek crossings and the pumping station. The system should be operable in July. We will put a tree replacement plan together over the next few week and then coordinate with the residents who will receiving them.
5/11/10 The contractor ran into some of the toughest digging last week as we approach the end of mainline sewer construction. Those that have driven by the site can see the size of the boulders being removed. This has made sewer installation, particularly on the south side of Rt. 173, very slow. The size of the boulders also potentially effects other utilities.
The main line was completed last week on the north side of Rt. 173 as well as all of the laterals. The 2 remaining laterals on South Street will be done this week and the remaining laterals on the south side of Rt. 173 will be started. The mainline on the south side of Rt 173 and Jutland Drive is scheduled for completion by May 21, if not sooner.
An arborist looked at the trees that were damaged during construction and has recommended that a number of them be removed. These will have orange ribbons put around them. It you have question regarding trees, please call me.
The replacement of the water main along the east side of South Street was discussed at last night's Town Board meeting and a Public Hearing was scheduled for May 24 at 7:45 PM.
Quantities to date: 8840 feet of mainline sewer (91%), 47 manholes (92%), 73 laterals (64%) and 2722 feet of lateral pipe (75%). Progress Map
5/3/10
Another strong week with almost 15% of the main line sewer pipe being installed. Two mainline crews will continue this week, working on each side of Rt. 173. The contractor is still on schedule to have the mainline pipe finished by May 21. Quantities to date: 7900 feet of mainline pipe (81%), 43 manholes (84%), 57 laterals (50%) and 2176 feet of lateral pipe (58%). No laterals were installed last week.
For those on the south side of RT. 173 west of South Street, we are considering installing all concrete sidewalks as part of the restoration instead of some concrete and some asphalt. More to come on this.
For those on the east side of South Street, we are considering replacing the 90 year old water main that runs along the east shoulder of the road. This seems like the right thing to do before the road get repaired. More to come on this, also.
4/27/10 Last week saw the construction of almost 20% of the mainline sewers as 2 crews worked through the School property and along Rte. 173. All the mainline is now completed east of the School Road. The 2 crews will continue westerly this week. All mainline construction is scheduled to be completed by May 21st.
Quantities to date: 6480 feet of mainline pipe (66%). 35 manholes (71%), 57 laterals (50%) and 2176 feet of lateral pipe (58%).
Revised Schedule
4/20/2010 Construction is Jamesville should pass the halfway point this week as 2 mainline crews work through the School property and along the south side of Rte.173. 2 laterals need to be installed on South Street and that road will be completed. 549 feet of mainline pipe, 2 manholes, 7 laterals, and 274 feet of lateral pipe were installed last week. Quantities to date: 4620 feet of mainline pipe (48%), 30 manholes (61%), 51 laterals (45%) and 1820 feet of lateral pipe (49%). The work is on schedule with pipe laying operations expected to be completed by the end of May.
4/5/10 It was slow going last week along South Street. Other utilities and traffic limited the week's progress to 258 feet of mainline sewer and 1 manhole. 9 laterals and 255 feet of lateral pipe were installed on North Street. Construction will continue on South Street this week. Through March 27, $603,000 of work has been completed out of $1,675,000 or a little more than 1/3. With better weather, April should see more work completed. Sewers are expected to be completed by the end of May.

3/29/10
Construction continued last week along North Street and the contractor was able to complete all the sewers and the long laterals. 660 feet of mainline sewer, 3 manholes and 98 feet of lateral pipe were installed. The pumping station and valve pit structures were also installed. To date, 33% of mainline sewers, 44% of manholes, and 20% of the laterals have been completed along with 100% of the casing pipe and about 50% of the pumping station. The contractor will be working on South Street this week. There will be traffic delays there so you may want to consider a detour on Bamerick Road.
For those of you who live on Route 173, the orange ribbons on the tree indicate those that will be taken down. Be assured that the contractor and the Town do not want to remove any more trees than necessary. We have tweaked the sewer location where possible to save trees but unfortunately it is necessary to remove a number of them.
A revised construction schedule is attached as well as a plan indicating the sewer that have been completed.
3/22/10 Construction continued along North Street last week. The contractor installed 2 manholes, 634 feet of mainline sewer, and 15 laterals totaling 551 feet of pipe. To date, there have been 2547 feet of mainline pipe (26%), 21 manholes (43%), 260 feet of casing pipe (72%), 20 laterals (17%), and 741 feet of lateral pipe (20%) installed. Work will continue along North Street this week and North Street should be completed by the end of the week or early next week. The monthly coordination meeting is tomorrow and a revised schedule will be provided by the contractor.
3/16/10 A somewhat slow week. The mainline crew moved from the School to North Street and in addition to the move time, spent the better part of a day clearing trees and doing other prep work. Construction along the roads will be much slower than the backyard as there is traffic and all the other utilities to contend with. As a result, the week's effort amounted to 340 feet of mainline sewer, 4 manholes , and 5 laterals totaling about 190 feet of lateral pipe installed. To date, there has been 1900 feet of mainline sewers (20%), 19 manholes (39%), 260 feet of casing pipe (72%), 5 laterals (4%), and 190 feet of lateral pipe (5%). The contractor will continue to work on North Street this week with the lateral crew working near the Little League field. A map is attached that shows the progress graphically.
3/8/10 It was another good week. Almost 600 feet of mainline pipe installed. The mainline crew should set manhole 14 near the Elementary School today and then move to North Street. The lateral crew will work on laterals between Town Center and Quinlan Ave. To date, about 1575 feet of mainline sewer (16%), 15 manholes (30%), and 260 feet of casing pipe ( 72%) have been installed. Through the end of February, the value of the completed work is $261,000 out of a contract price of $1,675,000.
3/1/10 It was a good week construction wise as a lot of progress was made. The contractor is working in the area west of the Town Center- no traffic, no utilities and good digging. The total mainline footage to date is 980 or about 10%. 8 manholes (17%) have been installed and 3 out of 4 borings. The schedule, which is attached, indicates proceeding beyond Quinlan Ave. to the School this week. The work will than jump to North Street. Work on the School property will be done during the Spring break to avoid disrupting the school day. Please remember to send in your lateral information if you have not previously done so.
2/24/10 Work on the project is finally underway in earnest. The Contractor, Bat-Con has finished the borings under Rt. 173 by the Elementary School and under the railroad by the Town Center. They are also working on the boring under the railroad and Rush Creek south of Rt.173. Sewers are being installed through Town Center and should be completed next week. The Contractor will then continue with the sewers westerly along the back of the homes on the north side of Rt 173 from Town Center to the Elementary School drive. The monthly construction meeting is next week and we will have more information on the upcoming schedule then.
For some perspective on the construction to date, 400 out of 9720 feet of mainline sewer has been installed (4%) and 3 out of 47 manholes (6%).
