HIGHWAY

SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS & CURBS

The Highway Department can offer assistance to property owners with replacement of sidewalks by removing and disposing of the old material.   Sidewalk maintenance is the responsibility of the property owner.  In order to replace a sidewalk residents must file an Application for sidewalk replacement.     Please fill out this application and return to the Highway Department.  Upon receipt of the completed application, we will visit the site and evaluate the request.

In 2008 the Town of DeWitt enacted a law which established basic rules and permit steps for curb cuts and other paving in residential neighborhoods.  A driveway/curb cut permit, issued by the Town of DeWitt, is required for new, replacement, resurfacing or modifying pavement.  A permit application fee is $30 plus a refundable (separate) $200 security deposit.  Use this link to review article IV of DeWitt Code in detail.
