Town of DeWitt Parks and Recreation
Department Description and Responsibilities
The Town of DeWitt Recreation Department, established under article 13 of the New York State General Municipal Law, has been operating municipal recreation programs since 1971. The sources of operating funds are local tax revenue, state aid, grants, and donations.
The department offers a comprehensive range of year-round recreation and leisure programming for residents ages 18 months and up. Activities for youth alone account for over 200,000 participation hours of programming annually.The department has received the Outstanding Program Award from the Central New York Recreation and Parks Society several times. It has been the subject of numerous positive editorials and receives excellent comments from the people it serves.
In 2004 the Town of DeWitt updated its 1996 Parks & Recreation Master Plan. A copy of the 1996 Plan, as well as the 2004 update, is available for review in the Recreation Office during regular business hours. It is recommended that you call the Recreation Office in advance to ensure that a copy is on hand for your use.
