|DeWitt Honored as Tree City|
Notices and Alerts
We are so proud of our very own Ann Stevens, Chair of the DeWitt Tree Committee, for receiving a DEC Urban Forestry Partnership Award. Ann is dedicated, ambitious, and talented. We are honored that she is not only a valued resident of DeWitt but Chair of the Tree Committee. Congratulations Ann!
The Town of DeWitt is proud to announce that we received an award as a Tree City USA for the third consecutive year. The Tree City USA program is a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America. We achieved this designation by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: 1) maintaining a tree board or department, 2) having a community tree ordinance, 3) spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and 4) celebrating Arbor Day.
In addition to the Tree City USA Award the Town also received a Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation. The Growth Award highlights innovative programs and projects, increased commitment of resources for urban forestry, and provides an opportunity to share new ideas and success across the country. These very important designations improve the Town’s ability to apply and compete for grant funding.
