Drownings and Permits
Drowning is the second leading cause of death in children under 14 years of age. It is the leading cause of death for children under the age of four. And, most drownings occur in home swimming pools.
The new and popular “inflatable pool” is a swimming pool according to the NY State Building Code which DeWitt must enforce. This means that a pool permit and inspection(s) are needed – along with fencing – for all pools capable of holding 24 inches of water or more.
Accidents can be prevented. Please contact us or encourage your friends and neighbors to call if a pool is to be installed. Filing for a Pool permit may cause a little extra time and work. However, it insures your family, friends and neighbors’ safety. Please call us at the Development office if you have any questions at 446-3768 or send an email to dev_oper@townofdewitt.com.
